A second NHS frontline worker has died with coronavirus at a hospital in Cumbria.
The 49-year-old agency staff nurse had been receiving critical care for a number of weeks before his death at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle on Sunday afternoon.
The married father-of-four was from London. His name is not being released.
His death follows the loss of radiographer Simon Guest from COVID-19 last Wednesday at Furness General Hospital in Barrow where he worked.
Lyn Simpson is chief executive of North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Cumberland Infirmary. Announcing the latest tragedy “with great sadness,” she said: “The individual will be sorely missed by his wife, four children, brothers and sisters and we are liaising with them and offering them our deepest condolences and sympathies at this difficult time.
“The nurse worked at the Cumberland Infirmary for a short time last month. Even though he had been with us for a short time, he was very much part of the team and his loss is a huge shock to the organisation.”
