Cumbria Jobs Fuse is a new service which has been launched to support regional employers and help those whose jobs have been affected as a result of the coronavirus.
The joint service, created by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP), the National Careers Service and the Department for Work and Pensions, will connect employers who have urgent vacancies with people in the county who are available to start work.
As part of the Cumbria Jobs Fuse package, the National Careers Service will provide support to those in the region who have lost their jobs or whose jobs have been affected by Covid-19. People can contact the National Careers Service helpline for free, impartial, and expert careers advice as well as practical guidance such as CV writing and access to training.
Mike Smith OBE, CLEP board member and chairman of its People, Employment and Skills Strategy Group, said: “The Cumbria Jobs Fuse will provide a crucial service for those who have been faced with employment challenges as a result of coronavirus. Cumbria LEP is pleased to support the development of this service, together with our partners, providing assistance alongside the government’s employment support package.”
Leanne Misaljevich, area manager for the National Careers Service in the North East and Cumbria said: “We face hugely uncertain times and in response to this we are delighted to be working with DWP and the Cumbria LEP to form the Cumbria Jobs Fuse.
“The National Careers Service is uniquely positioned to be able to provide free, impartial careers and employment advice and guidance to residents and employers in the Cumbria area, all delivered by our team of professional careers advisers.”
The National Careers Service lead in the Cumbria area, Mark Bowman, said: “We are pleased to be a partner in Job Fuse. We understand the difficulties the people of this county face and know that our team of local advisers can help the resilient people of Cumbria through expert and impartial advice and support. Though our relationship with the LEP and our links with local employers, we have a good network to provide hope at this difficult time.”
Department for Work and Pensions service leader Jo Corney added: “We are very pleased to see how Cumbrian partners have worked together to support the work of our Jobcentre Plus colleagues who are incredibly busy and working hard to ensure that everyone gets the support they need at this challenging time.”
