Millfield care home has begun to welcome visitors back for its residents.
The private home, on Penrith Road, said it was observing rigorous COVID-19 measures to keep residents and staff safe.
It has remained free from the virus during the pandemic.
The home’s staff are promoting garden visits where possible and friends and family will have to have their temperature taken, answer health questions, wash their hands and wear PPE before meeting a resident in an allocated area of the home.
Val Loan, manager, said: “The residents have been thrilled to see family and friends. Social distancing is maintained at all times.
“We are operating an appointment system and the designated area is sanitised between each 30 minute visit. No food gifts are allowed.
“The staff continue to step up to whatever is needed to keep all safe. I am in awe of the way they have worked through this awful time and I know they will continue to do so.”
For the first time since April, Cumbria County Council said there were no care homes experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak.
At its peak, 27 care homes were dealing with outbreaks and more than 300 residents were infected.
