A shop in Keswick, forced to close during lockdown, will not reopen as the business instead switches to an online or phone service.
Florists Evergreens of Keswick in Packhorse Court has been open for nearly seven years, run by Debra and Andrew Binns.
One full-time and two part-time shop staff will lose their jobs as the business, which also trades as Lake District Flowers, will be based at the couple’s home outside Keswick, with orders taken by phone or online.
Debra said: “We have been working from home all through lockdown and it has been working really well.
“We have decided, with our family situation, to carry on the same. We have some loyal customers who turned up at the shop for a chat and we are going to miss that.
“But lockdown has made us all stop and think ‘can we do it another way’ — and we have managed to provide our service another way. Unfortunately, I’ll not be employing my girls. That is a sad loss.
Large orders of flowers from Holland will be delivered daily to the couple’s home rather than to the shop for Andrew to deliver to customers. “Our van will be around Keswick every day,” added Debra.
