Organisers of the annual Borderway Agri-Expo have announced the event will not go ahead this year.
Harrison & Hetherington said the event, due to take place on Saturday 31st October in Carlisle, would be cancelled.
The Borderway Agri-Expo normally attracts hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors and the company said it would not have been able to operate under the current COVID-19 restrictions.
David Pritchard, joint managing director of Harrison & Hetherington, said: “These are challenging times and we have certainly thought long and hard about whether it would be possible for this showcase to go ahead this year.
“Borderway Agri-Expo has been growing from strength to strength over the years, and we have tried our hardest to come up with solutions which would adhere to government directives so as not to lose momentum.
“However, even if it were to be a scaled-down event, there would still be risks.
“Each year we receive tremendous support from the livestock industry, and our entire team would like to thank the exhibitors, competitors, sponsors and judges for their ongoing support.
“We look forward to working with them again and welcoming them back to Borderway next year.”
Next year’s event is planned to take place on Friday 29th October.
