A popular campsite has announced it will close from Thursday because several campers cannot stick to COVID-19 guidelines.
Stonethwaite Campsite in Borrowdale posted on social networking site Facebook that it was forced to make the decision because people were ignoring the guidelines, plus the amount of rubbish left at the site was overwhelming.
The statement said: “It pains us to say this but we made have the decision to close the campsite for the next few weeks.
“Unfortunately, many of our campers have been unable to stick to our guidelines let alone Government guidelines, making stays far less enjoyable for our regular campers and ourselves.
“Not only that, we are unable to keep up with the sheer amount of rubbish – including tents, gazebos, airbeds, chairs and even a mop – which not only makes the site look untidy but also adds a huge cost to ourselves to get rid of.”
The statement, addressed to ‘idiot campers’ said they had an issue with people playing music until 4am, which is against campsite rules and continued despite the campers being asked to turn it off.
It added: “Groups are limited to a maximum of six or two families by the government, so stop turning up in groups of 10-plus.
“Regular campers – We are sorry we have come to this decision but hope you understand.
“The site has been busier than ever and while it has been good to see you again, we’re sure you’ll all enjoy it more when normal service has resumed and the peaceful, laid-back atmosphere of our campsite returns.
“Until then, please stay safe, be kind and we’ll see you when the lockdown freedom frenzy is over.”
