Keswick guest house owners Sally and Keith Lunson have been baking up a storm for the last six years making cakes to raise money for Keswick Mountain Rescue Team.
Now the couple, who run the Glencoe Guesthouse, on Helvellyn Street, have put all their yummy recipes into a book which will go on sale with all proceeds going to the team.
Since the couple came to the guesthouse in 2014 they have been producing a homemade cake each day and visitors could enjoy a slice in exchange for a donation to the team.
It was warmly welcomed, with guests even suggesting their own top tips to vary the recipes.
The plan was always to produce a recipe book of all the cakes, so more money could be raised for the charity, and after several hours of baking, photography, graphic designing and editing, Bakes from the Lakes has now been produced.
Each recipe comes with a full-page colour photo, clear instructions and top tips and many of the recipes can be adapted for a gluten free diet too.
The book includes old favourites including Victoria sponge, banana and chocolate chip, as well as the couple’s daughter Vicky’s favourite, carrot cake.
Sally said: “Having paid the cost of printing ourselves, all proceeds from the sale will go to KMRT who will have fewer donations this year from around the town due to the COVID lockdown.
“It would be brilliant if in addition to selling the books at our guesthouse, we could also encourage local businesses to sell them around town as well.”
Andy Jones, of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, said: “Once again our members are amazed by the novel and ingenious ways people find to raise money for the team.
“Sally’s cakes have been a huge hit in her guest house, raising over £2,500.
“The production of the recipe book, which looks very professional and has been paid for entirely by Sally and Keith, is yet another example of the support we receive from the local community and for which we are so very grateful and without which we would not continue to operate.”
Bakes from the Lakes is available for sale from Glencoe Guesthouse at £8.99.
It can also be posted for an additional p&p fee of £2.
