Problem parking during the coronavirus crisis has led to a massive increase in the number of notices of intended prosecutions being issued to motorists using Lake District National Park Authority car parks over the summer.
Figures released by the authority from June to mid-September show there have been 184 notices issued compared to 77 over the same period last year.
Simon Hill, commercial property manager with the LDNPA, said: “We have seen an increase in problematic parking this year and have had many new visitors to the park so we set up saferlakes.co.uk to allow people to check how busy car parks are and plan ahead.
“All money generated by car park income goes back into looking after the Lake District and we do have some donation car parks.”
