Unemployment numbers fell in October in Cumbria.
The latest figures for people claiming Jobseekers Allowance and Universal Credit and actively seeking work were released this morning by the Office for National Statistics.
There were 12,725 people claiming the benefits in Cumbria, a fall of 570 since September.
This means the county has a claimant rate of 4.3 per cent compared to 6.3 per cent nationally.
The count and rate fell in all districts in Cumbria, particularly in those areas where there had been a boost to the visitor economy.
The count was taken on October 8th, before the current lockdown was announced.
Despite the continued improvement, the claimant count in Cumbria is still 5,795 higher than it was in March and the claimant rate is two per cent higher.
At the end of August there were 22,900 people furloughed in Cumbria, a take-up rate of 10 per cent which was just below the national rate of 11 per cent.
South Lakeland had a furlough rate above the national average in August at 13 per cent.
There have been 15,000 claims under round two of the Self Employment Income Support Scheme in Cumbria by the end of September.
The take-up rate was 60 per cent compared to 67 per cent nationally.
Also, there were 467 businesses recorded as dissolved/in liquidation during October, a rise of 172 since September and 290 more than in October last year.
