Organisers of Keswick Advent Live are determined the popular event will go ahead in 2020.
Keswick Advent Live began in 2014 and is usually launched by a Santa boat race on Derwentwater and featured pop-up events over Advent. Shops also decorate their windows.
However, due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions, the main events of Keswick Advent Live will not go ahead, but organisers Keswick Tourism Association are determined to bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the town.
Vanessa Metcalfe, tourism manager for Keswick Tourism Association, said: “Sadly due to ongoing restrictions we took the decision early not to ask businesses to host the usual pop-up events and our launch event, the Santa Splash boat race won’t be taking place either.
“However, a number of businesses said that they were still keen to do something and not cancel altogether.
“After some discussion we have decided that there will be a Christmas window trail and of course people will still be able to vote for their favourite window.
“Due to the second lockdown we had a several businesses drop out, but we currently have nine taking part and have room for more if anyone would like to get involved.
“Now more than ever we need to spread some Christmas joy and the window trail will be a wonderful, outdoor activity that everyone can enjoy.”
Hayley Peacock, owner of Keswick Cheese Deli in Packhorse Court, is taking part.
She said: “We are so pleased Keswick Live Advent is going ahead, despite the slightly different approach this year. We have to keep things up and running as much as possible. We are very happy to be taking part!”
All of the festive windows will be lit on 1st December and the trail map will be available to download from 30th November.
When Keswick Tourism Information Centre reopens, people will be able to pick up copies from there.
