A decision has been taken by Allerdale council to close Keswick market temporarily following discussions with traders after the announcement of the third national lockdown.
As the restrictions allow markets to continue to operate for traders selling essential goods only, the council says it will keep the decision under regular review.
“We encourage people to adhere to the COVID-19 restrictions by staying at home and avoiding social contact,” said a council spokesman, adding: “If you need to shop for essentials, please consider supporting local businesses as much as you can.
People can support the market traders through the council’s ‘virtual market.’
It gives customers information and advice on how they can buy their goods online, through home delivery or other methods.
