Giant potholes which are appearing on Keswick’s streets should be filled in while the town is in lockdown and largely free of traffic.
That is the view of Councillor Allan Daniels, who is urging local people to contact Cumbria County Council to report the worst potholes.
“I would have thought that now we are in our third lockdown since March, with very little traffic from tourists or cars parked, that the county council would have got to grips with the problem by filling them,” he said.
“I have driven around town and some of the potholes have almost taken my wheel off. It is an absolute nightmare.
“Borrowdale Road is horrendous and some round Blencathra and Wordsworth Street are shocking.
“Eskin Street is particularly bad. Surely it makes perfect sense to fill the holes now while there’s no traffic rather than wait until the summer when all the tourists are back?” said Mr Daniels.
He is an independent councillor on Keswick Town Council and an Allerdale Conservative but not a member of the county council, which is the highways authority.
The start of the new year has brought sub-zero temperatures, which can create potholes.
Mr Daniels has taken photographs of some of the biggest and deepest to submit to the county council.
