Honister is a record-breaker – for rainfall this winter and 2021 so far.
As Storm Christoph hit Cumbria, bringing heavy rain and strong winds, the Environment Agency said that on Tuesday, provisional records show that Honister received 123.8 mm of rainfall, a new daily rainfall record for this winter and 2021.
Train journeys were cancelled and drivers were urged to take care on the road.
Flood alerts and warnings were in place for Cumbria this morning, but as of this afternoon, theree is only one flood warning still in place for Keswick Campsite and five flood alerts, which means flooding is possible and people should be prepared, at Lower River Eden; Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster Upper River Aire; Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater and Upper River Wyre, Brock.
Paul Gundersen, Met Office chief meteorologist, said: “Colder air is now established across the UK as Storm Christoph moves away into the North Sea, and gale force winds will impact the northeast of the country.
“There are three national severe weather warnings in place, two in north and east Scotland, one for rain and one for snow valid until noon on Friday, and an ice warning cover western Scotland, north west England, Northern Ireland and much of Wales, valid until 10am tomorrow.”
