Plans to build six timber holiday lodges as additional accommodation on land owned by The Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite have been refused by Lake District planners.
The development was proposed to help diversify the accommodation offer at the inn as part of a comprehensive refurbishment of the site after it was bought by the Inn Collection Group.
The site is on a raised piece of land on the opposite side of the public road to the inn.
Plans showed six timber lodges comprising of two bedrooms, shower room, and an open plan living/dining area.
The application said that basic provisions would be provided for guests with catering to be provided at the inn.
A report by Lake District National Park planning officer Kevin Richards said the site was detached from the existing hotel buildings and on the opposite side of the road.
The lodges, access, and vehicles would result in adverse landscape and visual impacts.
The report added: “Neither the benefits of the development nor any other material considerations, including support for the existing business have been demonstrated to outweigh the harm identified.”
