A long-serving member of Keswick Lions has been recognised for his charitable and community work.
Alan Dunn received a leadership medal at last Saturday’s virtual annual convention of the Lions of District 105CN (Central and Northern England including North Wales).
Mr Dunn has been a stalwart of Keswick Lions since 1988 and has held many roles including club president and zone chair.
The announcement was made by UK international director of Lions Geoff Leeder, who said Mr Dunn lived and breathed the role he has in his club and at district level.
“He is ready to answer your queries and never makes you feel like you are putting him out,” said Mr Leeder.
“He shares his expertise openly and without rancour.
“He brings to this district a sense of belonging and, truly, the way he supports our international organisation, he is always looking at an expanded view of Lionism rather than having an insular close-minded view.”
He referred to fund-raising walks Mr Dunn had undertaken.
Last year he walked the length of the A66 to raise £10,500 for Lion charities.
Mr Dunn’s wife Heather presented him with the award, which is approved by the international president of the Lions.
“It is a huge honour and I am absolutely delighted,” said Mr Dunn, who is a member of Keswick Town Council.
He added: “It came as a complete shock. The district governor made arrangements for the medal to be delivered to my home in the post and Heather had it when the presentation was made.”
Mr Dunn also presented Keswick club president Anne-Marie Green with the LCIF (Lions Clubs International Foundation) trophy as district LCIF co-ordinator.
It is the second successive year the club has won the trophy, having contributed £4,900 to global causes this time.
Mrs Green said she was proud of what Keswick Lions have achieved.
“Much of it is down to Alan’s hard work and the A66 walk he did last year,” she said.
