A 60-year-old who slipped and injured his ankle on a Lake District mountain was rescued by helicopter in an operation lasting about four hours.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called to Striding Edge on Helvellyn at 2pm on Saturday to help a man from the North East who had slipped and injured his ankle.
Sixteen team members from the mountain rescue team responded.
A spokesman for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Due to the remoteness of the location, a decision was made to request assistance from the Coastguard and a rescue helicopter was scrambled from Prestwick.
“The casualty was assessed by a team first aider and his ankle was splinted. He was then winched from Striding Edge by the aircraft and flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle where a fracture to his right ankle was confirmed.”
