Excitement is in the air in Keswick as the latest easing of coronavirus restrictions comes into force.
From today you can:
- Hug family and friends – the decision about whether this is an acceptable risk to take is up to the individual.
- People should continue to keep their distance from anyone not in their household or support bubble.
- Indoor hospitality will reopen – pubs, restaurants, hotels and other venues can now serve customers indoors.
- Most legal restrictions on meeting others outdoors will be lifted – although gatherings of more than 30 people will remain illegal.
- Indoors, the Rule of 6 or 2 households will apply.
- Up to 30 people will be able to attend weddings, receptions and wakes, as well as funerals. This limit will also apply to other types of significant life events including bar mitzvahs and christenings.
Today people could been seen eating and drinking inside cafes, hotels and restaurants with many visitors from across the country returning to Keswick.
Welcoming the return of visitors to the town, tourism manager at Keswick Tourism Association, Vanessa Metcalf, said: “It is absolutely fantastic. Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen a degree of businesses opening up.
“Outside hospitality has been really popular, but the weather has been an issue with that on occasion. “
She said being able to eat and drink indoors will be a huge boost for hospitality businesses and the supporting industries.
