A delay in the easing of lockdown restrictions across England is likely to be delayed by four weeks.
The coronavirus restrictions were due to be lifted completely on June 21, but it is understood that senior Government ministers agreed last night to extend the rules for another month.
It means nightclubs will stay closed and people will be encouraged to still work from home where possible.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to confirm the delay later at a press conference.
It is thought the rise in case numbers of the Delta variant has prompted the move, plus it would give more time to investigate if vaccines were effective in weakening the link between infections and hospitalisations.
