An 18th century coaching inn in the North Lakes is set to partly reopen next month as its continues to undergo a major refurbishment.
The pub and several rooms at the Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite Lake will again be open to the public in July, with the remaining guest rooms set to follow in the autumn.
A spokeswoman for The Inn Collection Group, which owns the hostelry, said some rear areas on the ground floor were being transformed into additional guest bedrooms.
She said: “This is testament to the popularity of the inn and the demand for rooms.
“There are areas which are to remain untouched and allow their natural age and beauty to take stage.”
Period interiors in a small bar and lounge area, dating to the early 20th century, are to be carefully preserved.
They have been entered into the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Inventory of Historic Interiors of National Importance.
The guest bedrooms on the first floor of the main pub and in the annexe building are to undergo a major overhaul, with services being upgraded in line with current regulations.
The new décor will be sympathetic to the inn’s location and style, the Inn Collection Group said, which makes The Pheasant one of the North Lakes’ top historic hotels.
