Drivers are advised to avoid the A66 between Keswick and Threlkeld.
Police and emergency services are currently dealing with a collision on the road.
Traffic is queuing already on the A road.
A statement from Cumbria police said: “Please try and avoid the area whilst the vehicles and the road are made safe.”
It is not known how many vehicles are involved.
