A Keswick-based befriending scheme, aimed at reducing loneliness and social isolation in the town, has received a £5,000 grant.
Two’s Company Keswick is a partnership between Churches Together and Keswick Rotary Club, with the support of Age UK West Cumbria.
The initial grant, from the Abbeyfield Carlisle Society Over-55 Community First Fund, has been arranged by Cumbria Community Foundation.
Tony Welton, chair of trustees, said: ‘We are very pleased and thankful to be awarded this generous grant, which will fund the first year of operation.”
The first 10 volunteer befrienders are currently being trained, ready to be matched with the first people in the CA12 area community wanting to be in regular contact with a befriender.
Scheme leader Keith Rigg said: “The next month will give us the opportunity to ensure everything is in place ready to fully launch the scheme in early September.”
