Members of Keswick Mountain Rescue team went to the assistance of an 81-year-old man who had slipped and injured his ankle while descending High Rigg yesterday afternoon.
Unable to continue, his friends dialled 999 and asked for the help of the rescue team.
The team deployed two vehicles to the area with other members going direct.
Team doctors were quickly able to assess the casualty and, suspecting a broken ankle, gave the man some pain relief before splinting it.
He was then stretchered to one of the team vehicles and transported on to Keswick cottage hospital.
