Local environmental campaigners in Keswick have staged a protest this morning outside the town’s Barclays Bank under the Extinction Rebellion flag.
Police crime scene “do not enter” tape was stuck to the front door of the Market Square branch, and across its cash point, with stickers saying the bank funds the fossil fuels industry which is contributing to global climate breakdown.
Barclays in Keswick is closed on Wednesday but the peaceful demonstration saw a group of activists including Allan Todd, Dave Miller, Alistair Grey and Jo Alberti handing out leaflets to members of the public.
They call for people to switch banks and email its chief executive officer.
Mr Todd said: “In one way or another Barclays funds fossil fuels and the money of the people who have an account with Barclays, including Keswick Town Council, and the fees you pay are contributing to climate breakdown.”
