A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and false imprisonment in Keswick.
Police were called at 1.47am on Saturday to the report of a sexual offence involving a man and a woman at the town’s Bell Close.
The thoroughfare which leads from Market Square to the Bell Close car park, next to the public toilets, was cordoned off until about 11am.
A 19-year-old man from Keswick was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and false imprisonment. He has been released under investigation whilst enquiries are ongoing.
A spokesman for police said: “Anyone with information on this incident should report the information directly to police via www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit or by calling 101. The reference number for the incident is log 17 of September 25.
“The public are asked not to speculate on this report as proceedings are active.”
