Traffic was brought to a standstill in a side street of Keswick this afternoon as a large vehicle transporter got stuck on Southey Street – centimetres away from parked cars.
Curious residents and visitors were drawn outside as the unfortunate Scania HGV driver got snarled up on a narrow street where cars are routinely jammed in on both sides of the street.
The young driver, from Lithuania, had been intending to deliver a car to a local garage and is believed to have avoided the low stone bridge on Penrith Road before getting in a tangle.
He showed remarkable poise as he tried to manoeuvre both forwards and then in reverse and with the help of local people, the driver attempted to back up onto Church Street.
