Keswick residents are being urged to join a pilot car share scheme designed to protect the environment and reduce the number of cars in the town.
Led by Sustainable Keswick and KarShare, the UK’s first car sharing platform, the aim is to find 10 people to promoting the practice within the local community and to visitors.
Following Sustainable Keswick’s last Green Get Together, members of the environmental group heard from Charlie Richards who represents KarShare.
Like Airbnb for cars, the app lets people share their cars securely while also earning money from it.
Lee Jack also spoke to the group about his first-hand experiences of the scheme. A Keswick resident, Lee joined the scheme in October, 2020, and has since earned around £500 from sharing his car.
The app boasts secure keyless technology which means no handover is required and vehicles can be locked remotely, comprehensive insurance and full user control of dates, bookings, times and prices.
A representative from Sustainable Keswick said: “We must engage in new schemes to reduce congestion, CO2 emissions and improve green space in our Cumbrian towns. Be part of the change and get involved.”
