Keswick Mountain Rescue Team has been paid a visit by Copeland MP Trudy Harrison.
Mrs Harrison met volunteers during a visit to the team’s Lake Road base and learnt more about the rescue vehicles and training facilities used by the team’s volunteers.
Mrs Harrison said: “It was a pleasure to meet the team and I am full of admiration for the life-saving work they do – in all weathers and 24 hours a day.
“The excellent service they provide can only be achieved through the dedication of the volunteers, with the support of their families and generosity of their employers.”
Last year, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team – with the other 11 rescue teams in the Lake District – were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to recognise their commitment to helping others.
Mrs Harrison added: “Hearing some of the stories of rescues the team have been involved in, it highlights the importance of reminding locals and visitors to check the weather forecast and prepare fully before they head out on a walk as conditions can quickly change and difficulties can arise.”
Gordon Barker, chairman of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, said: “It was a pleasure to show Mrs Harrison around the newly-completed Keswick Mountain Rescue Team base and to have an opportunity to thank her in person for her support in helping the team secure the land purchase that made the whole project viable.
“The new base strengthens both the team’s and the wider region’s ability to respond to emergencies, particularly major events involving multiple agencies.”
