A building preservation notice has been placed on the site of an historic water mill in the Borrowdale Valley.
Members of the parish council heard at their February meeting that the Lake District National Park Authority had taken the action to protect the mill at Coombe Gill between Rosthwaite and Seatoller.
The news was positively received by councillors.
They heard that the notice has been issued by the LDNPA because it appeared to them that the building, which is not listed but is of special architectural and historic interest, is in danger of demolition or alteration in such a way as to affect its character.
For the duration of this notice listed building consent will be required from the LDNPA for any demolition, alteration or extension of the building in any way that affects its character as a building of special architectural or historic interest.
