A Keswick Mountain Rescue Team doctor was the first on the scene after a 64-year-old man collapsed on a path on the lower slopes of Catbells on Tuesday.
The doctor, who was just about to set off on a walk nearby, raced to the scene and arrived before other volunteers, who had set off from the team’s Keswick base.
A spokesman for Keswick mountain rescue said: “Fortunately the man had recovered significantly and after an assessment was able to be walked off the fell to an awaiting ambulance.”
He was then taken to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven for a check-up.
