People in Allerdale are encouraged to sign up to pay their council tax by direct debit so they can get the Government’s £150 rebate payment direct into their bank account next month.
Households in England in council tax bands A-D, will receive a £150 rebate to help with rising energy and other living costs. Unlike another scheme announced by the Government, this £150 rebate will not need to be repaid.
Signing up is easy, just go online at: https://www.allerdale.gov.uk/en/council-tax/pay-your-council-tax-online/ and follow the links. Residents can also ring the council’s customer service team on 0303 123 1702.
People who do not pay by direct debit will have to apply to receive the payment. More details are set to be released at the end of this month.
Councillor Alan Pitcher, executive member and portfolio holder for customer experience and innovation, said: “I’d encourage anyone who is not paying their council tax by direct debit to do so today. It only takes a few minutes to do, and not only will it mean you’ll have one less thing to think about every month, it will also mean you won’t need to do anything to get the rebate payment from the government.”
The council offers different payment dates to accommodate the personal circumstances of the bill payer.
Those who already have a direct debit set up with the council to pay their council tax do not have to do anything.
