From a Lancashire mill town to a Lakeland fell town — meet the new owners of The Lakes Fish & Chips on Bank Street, who’ve decided Keswick is the plaice to be!
Sole traders Rob Walmsley and Joanne Potts — or Rojo as they are called — arrive in town from Nelson, Lancashire, where they ran a chippy for two years but ‘haddock’ enough …
It was out of the frying pan and, erm, into the fryer, as they took over in Keswick from previous owners Paula and Stephen and plunged straight in at the deep end on “Fryday”.
Joanne said: “I’ve always wanted a chip shop and Rob has always wanted to move to the Lake District. It feels really nice to be here and it’s such a pleasant place.”
Rob, 52, a keen walker and climber, said: “Coming here is an ambition. As a lad I was from Preston and have always come up to the Lakes with my parents when I was a kid and with my mates as I got older. I’ve visited many times for years and years and years.”
He joins older brother Richard in Keswick, who came here four years ago and runs the Thyme Bistro at Museum Square
They plan to maintain the existing opening hours, seven days a week, from 11am to 8pm.
With an eye on the busy Easter period coming up, they are on the lookout for staff, and a place to rent.
