A Keswick town councillor has been awarded a total of £2,214 towards buying medicines for refugees ahead of a trip to Poland in April – with further donations urgently needed.
Peter Terry plans to drive from England to the border of Poland and Ukraine in his Citroen Berlingo with basic emergency medical and dental supplies on April 9.
Chairman Alan Dunn has awarded Cllr Terry £214 from his mayoral fund, which was boosted by a unanimous vote of the council that he receive a £2,000 grant.
The not-for-profit Keswick Community Asset Company has also made use of its NatWest bank account for people to make donations to pay for the medical supplies Peter will take.

Cllr Terry has also set up a Crowd Funder page with a target of £2,000 which has raised £151 so far with just three donations and six days left.

James Breedon and Charlotte Hill of Brundholme Dental Practice, Keswick, have pledged to match-fund the £1,000 Cllr Terry plans to spend on dental supplies – so that he receives £2,000-worth to take over.
Cllr Terry said he was humbled by the support shown.
Cllr Terry said: “The mayor said what a generous town Keswick was and I think these councillors have proved that tonight, and I thank everyone one of them from my heart.”
Cllr Dunn gave a speech at the meeting and said the town of Keswick had always been generous, hospitable and charitable.
He urged people to open their hearts and homes to those fleeing Ukraine, as part of the 45,000 people the UK Government has agreed to take in.
