If you’re sitting on a wooden bench in town, the chances are it’s probably one provided by Keswick Rotary Club.
And now in another sign that the mass lockdown of two years ago is over, a vital pair of seats outside the tourist information centre at the Moot Hall have been reinstated.
Removed during the pandemic to help queues social distancing outside the tourist information centre, they were so popular people wrote in to the Reminder demanding their return!
The Rotary Club was only too happy to oblige – with support from a pair of gardening staff from Keswick Parks – much to the relief of those with mobility problems, or those simply wanting to watch the world go by in the centre of town.
David Quainton, secretary of the Rotary Club of Keswick, told the Reminder: “This year is the platinum jubilee of the Queen and it’s an opportunity for us to recommit two benches here. It’s an ideal location, it’s a meeting point for a lot of people and people have missed the loss of them.”
In another initiative, the club is encouraging people to donate to its two wishing wells to raise money for Ukraine, having already raised £7,000.
