Dancing on Ice star Christopher Dean has been in Keswick – to go messing about on boats.
But prior to a day’s sailing with friends on Derwentwater, the former champion ice dancer popped into the Chalet Tea Rooms & Restaurant in Portinscale for a slap-up Cumbrian breakfast – and a selfie with general assistant Lynne Gate.
“We recognised him straight away because we all watch Dancing on Ice,” said Lynne. “And he was lovely, really lovely. He said he was visiting friends and looking forward to a day out on the lake.
“I asked him if he wouldn’t mind getting a photo, thinking that he must get sick of people asking for selfies – but he couldn’t have been nicer about it.”
It’s now 38 years since Christopher and his partner Jayne Torvill won gold for Great Britain at the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, skating to Ravel’s Bolero.
Together the couple also held the British, European and World ice dancing titles, before turning professional and touring the world with their own ice dance spectacular.
Since 2017 they have been judges on the hit Saturday night show Dancing on Ice, which is due to return to our screen for its fifteenth series next year.
