It hit the headlines last year after eerie video footage appeared to show it floating around the beer garden of a popular Keswick pub.
Now, just weeks after the pub reopened under new management, it seems the Twa Dogs Inn ghost has returned to its favourite haunt.
Landlady Nicola Carr has revealed that the spooky apparition – who never buys a drink, but seems to enjoy the company of the regulars – has once again been spotted on the premises.
And CCTV video taken earlier this month seems to confirm the presence of a strange, orb-like entity floating silently over the patio, seemingly invisible to a pair of customers having a smoke nearby.
“It just hovers there by the door for several seconds, then shoots off towards the far end of the beer garden and disappears,” Nicola told the Reminder. “The two customers don’t seem to see it, but on the video it’s like a ball of bright white light.
“I thought it might have been a torch at first, or even a bug on the camera lens – but then I heard about previous sightings and I realised it was the same thing.”
The apparition first appeared last May, when it was spotted on CCTV by staff member Sharon Hankin. On that occasion two fluorescent green orbs could be seen moving around the locked beer garden, illuminating what appeared to be a body with moving arms and legs.
First reported in the Reminder, news of the sighting subsequently appeared in national newspapers and on TV and the video we shared has been seen almost 40,000 times.
Nicola, who is originally from Devon, took over the Twa Dogs from long-serving landlord Peter Harding in January, and was initially unaware of the previous ghostly visitation.
“I’ve now seen the old video and it’s too much of a coincidence for it to be anything else,” she said. “And apparently the pub has a spooky reputation: there have been sightings of a ghostly presence making its way across the pool room and down into the cellar.”
The current Twa Dogs Inn was built in 1967, on the site of another inn dating back to the 18th century. This has led to speculation that the apparition might be the ghost of a long-dead landlord.
“One of the regulars thinks it might be his dad,” Nicola said. “Whatever it is, I don’t feel it is an evil spirit. In a way, it’s quite a comforting presence.”
