Organisers of Keswick Scruffs Fun Dog Show have announced that Sunday’s event has been postponed in light of gusting winds forecast for the area.
With more than 36 market stall traders expected at the Fitz Park event, the Met Office issued a thunderstorm warning for today.
The expectation on Sunday is for 30mph gusts which would impact the marquees as well as concerns about other elements of the show and participants, organisers said.
The popular event, which was due to make its return after a two-year absence, is organised by Keswick Town Council, and Chris and Peter Harper, who own Podgy Paws Pet Shop in the town.
Vivien Little, clerk to the town council, told the Reminder that it is hoped it could be provisionally rearranged for July 17.
Cllr Paul Titley said it was only fair to give those attending plenty of notice rather making a decision late or on the day itself. Stallholders would be buying food and others travelling to the area, who needed to be warned.
The Met Office weather warning for the north west of England today has predicted heavy showers and thunderstorms will become frequent from mid-afternoon and last into the evening in places.
There is also the chance of locally torrential rain with 20-30 mm possible in one or two hours, the forecast said.
