Lakeland Leather has commissioned a local artist to create a piece of artwork as part of its brand revamp with the work featuring at its store in Keswick.
Visual artist Steve Carne, created the artwork to feature throughout the Lakeland Leather brand, including in store, online and on updated, more sustainable product packaging. The Keswick store received its make-over this week.
“The brief was to create a unique illustration representing Lakeland Leather’s 70-year trading history in their Lake District home,” Carne, of Kendal-based design agency Carne and Co said.
Lakeland Leather’s first store was opened in Ambleside in 1955, where it still stands today, along with the company’s thriving head office and warehouse.
The result is a seven-piece image of the Lakeland landscape, incorporating a number of local landmarks including Lakeland Leather’s Ambleside home, the Lake District fells and the Ullswater boathouse.
“It was important that the artwork was carried out by a local artist and depicted the stunning local scenery, as that is the core of Lakeland Leather – the Lake District, which we’re still proud to call home after almost 70 years,” said Martin Foster, Lakeland Leather’s managing director.
The artwork has already been implemented digitally, and is being installed throughout Lakeland Leather’s 30 stores nationwide as well as on new sustainable packaging.
“When we make our leather goods we always seek to do so in a planet-friendly way, so it makes perfect sense for us to find recyclable and plastic-free solutions across the company,” added Mr Foster. “So our brand refresh has coincided with more sustainable packaging elements joining our recycled paper bags with biodegradable ink already in place across our stores.”
