A member of staff at Keswick School will tackle the Great Scottish Run this weekend to raise money for a charity which has offered help to her daughter who has Down’s Syndrome.
Katy Drewette, who works in the school’s learning support department, is collecting cash for Penrith-based 4Eden, which supports disabled adults and children within the Eden Valley.
“4Eden are important to me as Eleanor has Down’s Syndrome and they have been fantastic providing kids clubs and other support that my daughter can access,” said Katy. “They provide respite for myself while providing Eleanor and her friends with lots of fun, whether simply at their office or out on a day trip. They also support adults with day to day activities and semi-independent living.’’
The Great Scottish Run half-marathon takes place on Sunday in Glasgow alongside a 10km event. The 13.1-mile run starts at George Square and finishes at Glasgow Green as runners pound the city streets.
“This was supposed to be my very first half-marathon although I completed the Dumfries half-marathon last Sunday as a training run,” said Katy, who is a member of Eden Runners.
“However, running is a real effort and it’s a big challenge taking on two half-marathons on consecutive weekends.
“I enjoy running but it has never come easy. I break out in a cold sweat just thinking about taking on 13.1 miles, so any support you can give, however big or small, is extremely gratefully received.”
