The Met Office has issued a weather warning for ice in Cumbria.
The yellow warning for ice, which began at 6pm on Boxing Day, said wintry showers were expected throughout the evening, but as skies clear it would leave clear, patchy ice on untreated surfaces.
The warning lasts until 10am on Tuesday, December 27.
The Met Office said: “Cloud and rain will arrive from the west through Tuesday morning with temperatures starting to rise. Any snow will be reserved for higher ground with patchy and temporary accumulations of 1-2cm above around 300 to 400 metres.”
What to expect
- Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths leading to a greater chance of injuries or accidents
- Patchy snow on higher routes, both from wintry showers this evening, and also on leading edge of rain early on Tuesday, making for somewhat difficult driving conditions
