Bassenthwaite Sailing Club has been nominated for a prestigious award – but needs your vote to help it win.
It has made the shortlist for the North West Club of the Year title in the RYA Awards.
The club, which is run by volunteers, is now appealing for people to help it win as the award will be chosen by public vote.
The extensive grounds are owned by the club and its members and it supports charities to promote the sport of sailing to underrepresented groups. This includes offering honorary club membership to the Calvert Trust, which delivers challenging outdoor holidays for disabled people.
The club has an active open meeting calendar including inland and regional championships for popular and minority classes and hosts non-sailing events such triathlons, lectures and meetings and vintage sports car events.
Its membership is growing year on year, with a 10 per cent increase in 2022 – and 27 per cent of the membership are juniors.
Paul Allen, of the club, said: “We’re up against some big competition and need your votes! It takes two minutes and anyone can vote. Bassenthwaite Sailing Club is a haven in the Lake District National Park where the love of all things sailing is celebrated on and off the water, by the young and the old, in an inclusive, fun and safe environment.”
