Keswick has been named as the top spot in the UK for families wanting to get away from it all.
cottages.com says the Lake District town is number one in the top 10 destinations for breaks during the upcoming February half-term, with Ambleside third, Bowness on Windermere fourth and Windermere seventh.
Its research, based on bookings, has found that all of the top 10 are in the north of England.
According to the Met Office, places in the east and south of the UK tend to be drier, warmer, sunnier and less windy than those further west and north yet this hasn’t deterred Brits.
The top 10 are:
- Keswick
- Whitby
- Ambleside
- Bowness-on-Windermere
- York
- Scarborough
- Windermere and Troutbeck
- Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley
- Warkworth
- Matlock
Tom Bell, vice president – portfolio, at Awaze, the parent company of cottages.com, said: “This year we’re seeing that the people are opting for Northern destinations for their half-term break whereas during the summer half-term this year, for example, we’re seeing more South West destinations in the top locations.
“The rise in luxury breaks and pet-friendly breaks are also both continuing to prove popular among Brits taking a staycation this February half-term.”
