A new independent gym that has just opened its doors in Keswick has got off to a great start.
People have been flocking to G’Day Fitness which opened in the former premises where The Keswick Reminder press was housed in Southey Yard, just before Christmas.
Since then more new equipment has been added and personal trainers Dave and Broc Bell have started to run gym classes during the day, with one starting as early as 6am which is proving very popular.
“We offer something different, it’s just a great space,” said Dave, who met Broc in Australia seven years ago. “People don’t know what is possible with the equipment we have got until they come and give it a go.
“Some people have the impression that gyms are dingy places where people sweat it out in silence,” said Dave. “But we are not like that. We are making an environment that is fun to be in and you don’t dread coming to and that starts with us as trainers and from a customer service point of view we are always here to show people how to use the equipment.”
The gym has been kitted out with weights for people who want to try Olympic lifting, cable machines and traditional resistance machines. There is also a functional area with an astro turf track and a push and pull sled.
Dave and Broc came to Keswick a year ago and while in Australia they were involved in remote resort management and were mainly based at Airlie Beach in the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland.
Dave, who hails from Keswick, met Broc while he was backpacking and it has been their dream to open a gym together.
