First impressions count and guests staying for the first night at Keswick’s newly-opened Premier Inn were certainly gushing in their praise about the hotel.
The doors to the multi-million pound, 71-bedroom hotel on High Hill were thrown open to paying guests for the first time last Monday.
And The Keswick Reminder was there on Tuesday morning to record the thoughts of visitors just after they had tucked into a hearty breakfast.
“It’s brilliant. We’ll be back,” declared John and Marie Vagon, of Wigan, who were staying for two nights.
“We normally stay at the Keswick Country House Hotel and this is a totally different environment. But we were very pleased with it.
“The staff are very friendly and it’s so clean,” said Marie, before heading into Keswick for a game of pitch and putt and then setting off to Buttermere for a walk.
Andy Pollitt, of St Helens, who was visiting with his family, said they were regular visitors to the Lake District and normally stopped at the Premier Inn at Cockermouth.
“It is what you would expect from a Premier Inn. It was very good and everything was fine. It has made for a nice change,” he said.
“We are regular visitors to the Lakes and we will be coming back several times this year and would stay here again if there are rooms available.”
Andrea Bromley, from south Manchester, said: “It’s been great and we have had a really comfortable stay in a family room. The family rooms are just brilliant.
“The staff are very friendly and we have just had the biggest breakfast ever. It’s in a great location and is good for walking. We went up Catbells yesterday and walked into town last night. We are going to Borrowdale to have a paddle in the river today.”
Sue and Ian Taylor, of Pilling, were impressed by the views from the hotel and particularly being able to look over at Latrigg while having breakfast.
“We will be coming back for a longer stay at the end of March, which says it all,” said Sue, who said the stay coincided with the 47th anniversary of them meeting on Valentine’s Day. “It’s a Premier Inn and the rooms are always good,” said Ian.
Tony Connelly, from a village near Poulton-le-Fylde, was staying for one night with his wife and described the experience as “fantastic” adding: “It’s been brilliant. We always go to Premier Inns.”
“It’s beautiful is Keswick. It must be one of the most beautiful places in the country,” he said before heading off to Buttermere for the rest of the day.
