Burglars forced their way into a Keswick church at the weekend and stole communion silverware and hundreds of pounds in cash.
The shocking break-in and damage caused by the determined intruders, who forced entry into St John’s Church, was discovered at 9am on Monday and reported to the police.
The thieves got away with church silver and some £1,200 in cash from a safe.
“It does feel as if our church building has been desecrated,” said the Rev Charles Hope. ”But then, what has gone is material and we are fully insured. We will recover. Prayers will still be said in church, candles will still be lit, worship will still be offered.”
Anyone with information should call the police on 101.
