Fraudsters have been hijacking Keswick Mountain Rescue Team’s Facebook page in an attempt to sell merchandise purporting to be from the volunteers.
“They advertise through the Facebook comments section on our posts weeks or months after the post goes up,” says a statement on the team’s Facebook page.
It added: “Keswick MRT does not sell merchandise either directly or through third parties. As soon as we become aware we immediately block them from our Facebook page.”
Team leader Chris Higgins said: “The team relies on public donations and anybody who takes advantage of that to make money for themselves is hitting the service we provide.”
