A supper club so popular it is booked months ahead has forged a fruitful relationship with a Miami businessman to serve an exclusive wine from a Keswick vineyard.
Jackie and Tim Attwood, who run The Keswick Kitchen at Keswick Golf Club, have since 2019 also hosted a monthly Sunset Supper Club.
The menu, created by locally renowned chef David Jackson, is so highly thought of that the club has been fully booked since last June and is currently fully booked until August.
Jackie recently ran into an old school friend, Jonathon Brown, owner of the Underscar Manor in Keswick, who now lives in Miami.
“He began to grow his own vineyard on the slopes of Skiddaw in 2017 – to a few raised eyebrows,” said Jackie. “A chance meeting at Penrith railway station, 40 years on, and a chat about what we were both doing led to Jon offering me some of his red wine to offer to my guests at the supper club, not only a very kind gesture but a unique opportunity for a room full of local people to be able to dine on local food cooked by a local chef served by local people and drink local wine with a label that states Keswick The Lake District – unbelievable!”
“The Ronda red wine which Jon has created is not available for sale, therefore very exclusive, the wine aptly named Prodigal Son, was very well received and enjoyed by everyone, and superbly complemented our surprise menu of Eden Valley fillet steak.”
Jackie added that chef David has had the honour of cooking for King Charles III on may occasions, during his regular visits to the Borrowdale Valley, the then Prince Charles enjoyed David’s cooking and especially his home-made flapjack.
“So much so, that before he left to return to London he would ask David for a couple of trays of “Flap Jackson” to take home for himself and the now Queen Consort Camilla, as they both enjoyed a slice with their morning coffee.”
