A campaign run by the Keswick Reminder and Cumberland & Westmorland Herald to raise vital funds for, and awareness of Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, has been recognised in the Regional Press Awards.
Over seven weeks the papers dedicated a full broadsheet page each week to the campaign, plus front page coverage, and asked readers to donate, either in person or via a JustGiving page, with every penny going to the charity. Some gave their loose change, and others gave hundreds of pounds. Business sponsors gave the campaign a great start, and from there it snowballed, with a final total raised in excess of £13,000.
At a ceremony on Wednesday in London, the campaign was Highly Commended in the Press Awards Campaign of the Year category — from a shortlist of seven, being placed in runner-up spot to a campaign tackling rogue landlords in inner-city Birmingham.
