William Mackereth, known to all as Bill, has died aged 86.
The well known Cumbrian beekeeper was also a notable combatant with prowess on the lawn bowling competition scene.
Both in beekeeping and sporting matters Bill, of Whiteside Avenue, Cockermouth, was determined and successful but was also considerate and modest.
He was an outstanding man held in deep regard by all those that knew him and will be sorely missed.
Born into a farming family, one of six children, Bill spent his early working life in agriculture moving on to being leading man in the maltings at Jennings Brewery.
Further career moves included an engineering firm and a agricultural fitter at Hilary’s in Aspatria.
Later on in his working life he ended up as a prominent figure setting up the mechanical aspect of a successful laundry firm.
In retirement Bill became president of Cockermouth Beekeepers Association and was involved in committee stages at county level and gave generously of his time and knowledge.
Now Bill has passed to rest, the vital spark has gone.
Bill was married in 1969 to Jean, daughter of John and Muri Stephenson, who survives him alongside their daughter Jeanie.
