The Coffee Shop in Threlkeld has raised £1,000 for Threlkeld Church of England Primary School by selling second-hand books to customers.
This is on top of more than £600 raised from the Christmas Tree crafts and treats, kindling bundles and dog biscuits sold in the shop which is run by Steven Campbell and Rachel Thomson.
Headteacher Abigail Jardine said: “I’m so grateful to Steven and Rachel for all their hard work in fundraising for us.
“We are now able to provide so much more for the children, including educational visits, and this year we have been buying new, more suitable classroom furniture for the children.”
The Coffee Shop, situated inside the village hall, is set up as a community interest company and run as a commercial business but is owned by the charity which manages the hall.
Local people are given preferential employment, and local foods and Fairtrade products are sourced where possible. The profits are then re-invested into the community.
The Coffee Shop is gearing up for another busy summer and continues to support the school in fundraising. It will be selling 2024 calendars on behalf of Friends of Threlkeld School, featuring scenes from the area and sponsored by local businesses.
