Walkers and runners took on a string of Lakeland peaks to raise money for charity in the 10in10 challenge last Saturday.
With an event base at The Swinside Inn in the Newlands Valley where it starts and finishes, the 10 peaks in 10 hours challenge covers a distance of 26km, or 16.1 miles, including 6,700ft of ascent.
It involves conquering Causey Pike; Sail; Crag Hill; Wandope; Whiteless Pike; High Snockrigg; Robinson; Dale Head; High Spy and Maiden Moor.
It’s a key fundraiser for the MS Society and the hope is of having raised £70,000 from the day, which would put the fundraising total to over £800,000 since it started.
Keswick’s Yvonne Booth created it back in 2011 after her husband Duncan was diagnosed with MS, at the age of 39.
Yvonne said it was the 12th year and the feedback again had been incredible, with participants from all over the UK and Europe.
“We are completely overwhelmed by the support we get for the 10in10 and Family 5in5. We couldn’t do it without the support of local businesses, friends and family. We are making a huge difference together by walking to stop MS.
“It was a brilliant day and the weather was kind to us. After the scorching temperatures it was much cooler and there was some cloud covering, we even got a bit of rain.”
The events are sponsored by Berghaus with patron Sir Chris Bonington also being supportive since the beginning.
The challenge includes a 5in5 family version for those eight and upwards. See www.10in10.org.uk or https://www.mssociety.org.uk/ for details.
